Glowing with Gold – ‘World Champion’ Students at TyneMet College

TyneMet College is celebrating with two students who won Gold Medals at the recent WKA Unified World Champions 2013 Competition in Italy this year.

As Gold medal winners, they have earned the prestigious titles of World Champions!

Between them, Callum Dillon, 17, and Libby Sansom, 17, from North Shields, who both train at the Burns School of Black Belts (BSBB) won a total of 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.

This World Championship contest is the ultimate competition for the sporting disciplines of Kick Boxing, Tae Kwan Do, Boxing, Mixed Martial Art and Karate.

Both of the TyneMet students entered into the kick boxing discipline competition and Callum, who is in his second year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Science, beat his competitors to win one Gold, one Sliver and one Bronze medal, whilst Libby, who is studying on the first year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Fitness, eliminated her competitors to come away with two Gold, three Silver and one Bronze.

Other medals won by the duo at European competitions earlier this year and the championship titles that they won at this event, now qualify both Callum and Libby for entry into next year’s Unified World Champions 2014 Competition which will be held in Spain – hopefully more medals will be won by both!

Warick Stephenson, Head of Care, Sport and Leisure, TyneMet College, said:

“TyneMet is delighted to have ‘world class’ students like Libby and Callum who have worked and trained extremely hard for this competition. Their focus and determination has ultimately paid off, enabling them to eliminate all other competitors and claim their well-deserved ‘World Champion’ titles!
