Winning slogan takes prime position in new store

A YOUNG Cramlington girl officially opened the doors to a new store after winning a competition with a tech-perfect catchphrase aimed at welcoming customers to the launch of Manor Walks’ newest retailer Currys and PC World.

Chloe Baker, 12, saw her slogan ‘Manor Walks into a PC World of Technology @ Currys PC World Cramlington’ displayed on the new shop front and has taken home a HP Tablet for winning the competition.

The 10,500 sq ft Currys and PC World store on the Retail Park at Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure was officially opened by Chloe on Friday 29 November.

The competition organised in partnership with Digital Community Youth saw over 30 entries from youngsters involved with the Manor Walks-based youth project, each entering the competition for the chance to see their catch phrase displayed throughout the new store.

Anya Herod, general store manager of Currys and PC World Cramlington, said: “We decided to run the competition as we really wanted to give back to the Manor Walks community who have been so welcoming. We thought it would be a great idea to get the youth of the area involved in helping us launch the store and we thought Chloe’s entry was fantastic.

“As newcomers, we’ve already noticed how proud the tenants of Manor Walks are of working within such a close-knit community and we can’t wait to become more involved with the centre and its shoppers.

“We feel it’s important to employ the community to serve the community and when we started to recruit we received such a positive response from local people and two-thirds of our new team come from Blyth, Seaton Delaval and other surrounding areas.”

Manor Walks’ general manager, Bruno Coppola said: “We’re delighted to welcome Currys and PC World to the Manor Walks community and it was wonderful for Chloe, a local girl to officially launch the store.

“The competition offered the perfect opportunity for the members of Digital Community Youth to get creative, and it is great to see our tenants joining together to celebrate new store openings at Manor Walks.”

Mick Harland, project manager at Digital Community Youth, added: “We’re very proud of Chloe and all the other youngsters who submitted their ideas to the competition. Everyone enjoyed creating their catchphrases and it’s always a privilege to team up with other retailers at Manor Walks.”

To celebrate the new store launch, Currys and PC World offered the first 200 customers who made a purchase on the launch day a 12-month free version of MacAfee Internet Security. Home audio company Sonos was also in-store to demonstrate its range of wireless speakers before offering customers the chance to win a brand new PLAY:1 speaker, worth £169.
