The Tej Kohli Foundation - Helping Costa Rica’s Poorest Children

Visitors to the tropical paradise of Costa Rica are drawn by its spectacular scenic beauty, fertile farmlands, pleasant weather and laws favorable to immigration. Sadly, it is all too convenient to overlook the devastating poverty that is inherent to the majority of the county.

Tej Kohli didn’t look away. Mr. Kohli’s heart was touched by the depth of the poverty he encountered. “I was visiting the Guanacaste province once and met several needy children and their families. I decided to set up a foundation and started funding their education, and in many cases, other forms of assistance, especially for handicapped children,” explains Tej Kohli. “Children are the future and we have to give them something to live for.”

For over 5 years the Tej Kohli Foundation has been making a significant impact in the lives of hundreds of families. The foundation strives to alleviate the oppressive burden of poverty by providing sanitation services, clean drinking water, food, shelter, medical services and educational opportunities for children and families in need.

The Tej Kohli Foundation discloses, “Tej Kohli is an international businessman and philanthropist, with a diverse portfolio of commercial and charitable operations in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and India. His business interests range from e-commerce and IT, to real estate and reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Tej continues to invest in forward-looking industries through the venture capital division of his company. Tej’s charitable works are channeled through the Tej Kohli Foundation, which supports under-privileged individuals in his adopted home of Costa Rica as well as his native India. Tej is particularly proud of the Foundation’s work in funding and promoting mobile eye clinics, the Niramaya eye hospital, and a program of corneal transplants to alleviate blindness in Delhi and across India’s Northern Central District. Tej is continually looking for areas in which direct, targeted, charitable support will change people’s lives.”
