New internet security division to create jobs in Newcastle

A Newcastle based internet services provider has launched a new internet security division and are anticipating creating new jobs within the year.

Zebra Internet Services, on Westgate Road, identified the need for a specialist division as there is a growing trend of ‘cyber squatters’ stealing business domain names and identities - as happened to Apple and Clydesdale Bank.

The new Domain Portfolio Management division has been specifically tailored in response to demand from business owners and aims to protect organisations’ internet presence and digital assets.

The new division is expected to double in size within the year which will provide employment and training opportunities.

Businesses whose operations depend on their online presence are of the greatest risk, warns Zebra’s domain portfolio manager, Andrew Carter.

He said: “The humble domain name is the unique identifier which underpins any website or email account. However, many business owners do not know who their domain names are registered with, when renewal is due or even if the registration details are correct.

“If renewal is overlooked, or registration details are incorrect, then it can be snapped up by cyber squatters as with Apples iPad.com registration, or simply cause websites and email accounts to disappear as occurred with Clydesdale Bank in August 2013.

“Losing control over a domain name is not unusual and something we have helped our clients resolve over the past 15 years in the internet business. In general, people just don’t realise the drawback they will face if they don’t ensure that they pay attention to this detail.

“With many companies now registering multiple domain names to strengthen their brand and build valuable portfolios of digital asset, it is vital to ensure that they are in full control of the situation. If disasters can happen to tech-smart companies like Apple and banking giants like Clydesdale, they can happen to anyone.

“Many people simply look for the cheapest provider of domain names online, satisfied that they have saved no more than a few pounds. Zebra has always offered domain name purchase and renewal, and our new division ensures that clients are in full control of domain names that they may have purchased over a number of years.”
