150 year-old Gateshead law firm enter administration
North East law firm Swinburne & Jackson LLP has entered into administration following an aborted merger and acquisition deal.
The Gateshead-based firm, which operates offices in Hexham, Chester-le-Street, Washington and Ryton are now in a period of formal winding down, with assistance from the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority.
All staff at the firm have been made redunandant.
Gordon Goldie and Matthew Higgins of Tait Walker LLP in Gosforth were appointed joint administrators.
Mr Goldie commented: “I think it’s a tragedy that a company that has been going over 150 years should have to go into administration. The practice was looking for a buyer for several weeks prior to our appointment, but as we speak that has not been possible.”
Clients of Swinburne & Jackson LLP are advised that their case files are in the process of being transferred to other solicitors practices across the region, and that they will be contacted directly by these firms in the coming days regarding their affairs.
