Tangerine PR link up with stroke charity

Manchester’s Tangerine PR has chosen the Stroke Association to be the agency’s first designated charity of the year.

After raising more than £20,000 in 2013 for a wide variety of different charities, thanks to individual and company donations and activities, the 60-strong Tangerine team was keen to dedicate its fundraising efforts to one cause this year.

An elected charity committee will head up the company’s fundraising in the coming months.

The agency kicks off its support for the Stroke Association on Sunday 30th March, with a 131ft abseil from the middle of Manchester Velodrome – affectionately dubbed ‘The Madchester Drop’.

With 10 ‘Tangerines’ signed up for the free drop at the end of March, the company is hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the charity at this event alone.

Sandy Lindsay, Tangerine’s founder and group MD, said: “As a business, we’ve always been enthusiastic charity supporters – whether it’s eating cake or wearing wigs to raise money, we’ve done it. We raised a fantastic amount for various worthy causes in 2013, so this year is we’re focusing our efforts on supporting one particular charity.

“People will still be free to do their own thing – for example, we’ve got one of our B2B team taking on the London Marathon for a separate charity – but it made sense to let our team choose the overarching cause they wanted to raise money for this year.

“We put it to a vote and the Stroke Association came out on top – we can’t wait to get started.”

The agency is currently planning an entire year of fundraising activity, as well as selling the charity’s Solidarity Strings in its Giant’s Basin reception. Launched by comedian Russell Kane, the strings make stroke visible to the general public and help to unify the stroke community.

Louise Kay, community and events fundraising manager for the Stroke Association, said: “As soon as we heard that Tangerine had chosen us as its charity of the year, we couldn’t wait to meet the team. The committee is buzzing with ideas of how to raise money and it’s fantastic to know they’re as enthusiastic about our charity as we are.

“The Madchester Drop is a daunting task and there’s already 10 Tangerines signed up, which is an amazing effort. We’re very grateful for all the support the team will be giving us over the coming year and we look forward to developing this wonderful partnership.”

In the North West, there are more than 14,600 strokes per year and over 157,300 people living with the effects of stroke.

The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading stroke charity which campaigns to improve stroke care, supports people to make the best recovery they can, and funds ground-breaking research to change the lives of people affected by stroke.
