Expo 2020 lures more British Businesses to UAE

The Links Group partners with IoD to discuss Middle East trade opportunities for British Businesses

19 February 2014, London, UK: Following Dubai’s successful bid to host Expo 2020, the United Arab Emirates has become an even more attractive trade destination for British companies. UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) plans to increase bilateral trade with the UAE in goods and services to £12 billion by 2015. It says current trade and investment levels are on track to meet those targets, reaching £10 billion in 2012.

With the support of the Institute of Directors (IoD), The Links Group—foremost provider of business ownership protection services in the Middle East—will provide IoD members and their guests the opportunity to learn about the significant trade opportunities for British companies in the Middle East and how these can be accessed through Dubai in a safe and secure way.

The Access Middle East – Opportunities for British Businesses seminar will be held at the IoD London headquarters in Pall Mall on 26 February 2014 from 18:00 – 20:30. Accompanying The Links Group will be government partners from Dubai FDI and Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing as well as senior representatives of Dubai International Financial Centre Courts.

The event will explain how, for the first time, business can be done into, with and from the Middle East using an English language court system, providing companies with the security and peace-of-mind that contractual obligations will be met.

The Links Group will also discuss how foreign companies can overcome perceived risks associated with the UAE’s Commercial Companies law through nominee partner structures for onshore trade licenses. The model, which The Links Group pioneered in partnership with Dubai FDI, ensures beneficial ownership so that control remains with the foreign company.

“Dubai is a great business capital and provides excellent links to the rest of the world through its first class trading and transport hubs. With growth being a top priority for the UK, the emerging economies of the Middle East, accessed through the UAE, present attractive opportunities for British companies across a multitude of sectors. We hope to demystify some of the misconceptions about doing business in the Middle East and encourage more bilateral trade between the UAE and UK,” said John Martin St Valery, founding partner, The Links Group.

“Exports and investments play a major role in the sustainable growth of the UK economy and IoD members are increasingly identifying this as a top priority in 2014. British companies remain global leaders in key sectors and there is clear demand for their services in the UAE and wider Middle East. The Access Middle East seminar presented by The Links Group together with UAE government partners will help connect delegates to some of these opportunities,” said James Sproule, IoD chief economist and head of policy.

About The Links Group

Established in 2002, The Links Group is a premier company formation specialist advising corporations and individuals on how best to establish a legal commercial presence in the Middle East. It provides an unrivalled network of corporate services to assist the company formation process with a particular focus on the UAE and Qatar.
