Wearside businesses urged to turn red and white for Cup Final

Homes, businesses and schools across Wearside are being urged to turn the city red and white ahead of Sunderland AFC’s highly anticipated Capital One Cup Final next weekend.

SAFC’s official charity, the Foundation of Light, is encouraging everyone in the city to decorate their houses, shops, offices and school in red and white and dress in the club’s colours from Monday (February 24), through to the big game on Sunday March 2.

The campaign is designed to harness the excitement which has already gripped the city and give those unable to make the journey to Wembley a chance to get involved

It will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for the Foundation of Light, with participants being asked to make a £1 donation to the charity. This can be collected by participating schools or businesses, or donated directly via a special Just Giving page - www.justgiving.com/safc

Proceeds will be used to support the Foundation of Light’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes, which benefit more than 42,000 young people and families across the North East every year.

Those taking part in the Red and White campaign can also share photos of their decorations or red and white clothes by emailing them to info@foundationoflight.co.uk or tweeting @SAFCOfficial using the hashtag #DaretoDream, with the chance to win free tickets to an SAFC game at the Stadium of Light.

Lesley Spuhler, Chief Executive at the Foundation of Light, said: “The Capital One Cup Final is a hugely exciting event for the club and the city as a whole.

“We hope everyone across Wearside will get involved and show their community spirit by decorating their homes, schools and businesses and wearing red and white as much as possible during the week.”
