5 top tips to optimise LinkedIn

LinkedIn can be used to build valuable relationships within your professional network. It is a place to showcase your skills, products or services, expertise, employment and career experience to current clients, colleagues, industry peers or new business leads.

Whether you use LinkedIn for personal use or have a company page to promote your business offering, there are a few simple things to ensure you are optimising your presence.

Approach PR’s Account Manager and social media trainer, Jennifer Isles, shares her LinkedIn top tips to boost personal profiles and company pages.

1. Professional imagery: a well-lit, professional headshot is advised for personal profiles and the company logo is best for the company page. Cover photos on a company page should either be a professional team photo or something that represents your products, services or business offering.

2. Complete and current information: LinkedIn is where people visit to explore your level of expertise and if your profile is half complete, you’re not going to look like the best in your field. Keep the page up-to-date and interesting to profile you or your company in the best possible way.

3. Recommendations: having third party recommendations only increases your credibility. Invite people you have worked with to leave a comment about your working relationship, your skills or how you handled a specific brief.

4. Sharing relevant content: your profile or company page is now full of content, but to keep it active share relevant updates, press coverage or industry news with your connections. Being a resource to people will only enhance your profile and by giving them something of interest which they can use, will help to secure those relationships and future conversations.

5. Promote your page: let people know you’re on LinkedIn. After meeting someone or working with a client, be sure to connect with them or invite them to follow your page. Include a link to your profile on your email signature and broaden the reach for future connections.

If you need further advice in setting up your LinkedIn profile or developing your company page, Approach PR’s How to use LinkedIn workshop could help you pull together a plan for yourself or your business.
