Flying the banner for red & white City

Wearside is going red and white in anticipation of SAFC’s Capital One Cup Final this weekend - and one business is flying the banner higher than most.

First2Print, based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), Sunderland, is producing 200 free banners for the Red & White City campaign, run by SAFC’s official charity, the Foundation of Light.

The campaign, which is supported by Sunderland City Council, is designed to turn Sunderland red and white in the build up to the big game on Sunday (March 2) and capture the excitement for those unable to make the trip to Wembley.

Participants are being encouraged to hang coloured decorations or wear red and white stripes in exchange for a £1 donation to the Foundation of Light, which can be made either through their school or business or direct at www.justgiving.com/safc

First2Print, which has also decorated its office in the Black Cats’ signature colours, is producing 200 campaign banners and will be giving them away on a first come, first served basis to schools, businesses and households wanting to take part.

Martyn Young, Managing Director at First2Print, said: “Large format print is one of our specialities so when the opportunity came up to get involved in Red & White City we jumped at the chance.”

“We’re big supporters of the Foundation of Light so whilst we’re happy to produce the banners free of charge we hope people will make a donation to the charity when they pick them up.”.

First2Print’s two foot by three foot Red & White City banners will be available to collect from the company’s offices at the North East BIC or the main reception at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light from Thursday (February 27) during office hours.

Whilst banners are free of charge Foundation of Light donation buckets will be at both sites and people taking banners are encouraged to make donations towards the charity’s award-winning work in the community.

Banners are restricted to one per person.

Lesley Spuhler, Chief Executive at the Foundation of Light, said: “Hundreds of schools, businesses and households across Wearside are showing their support for the Red & White City campaign and we’re delighted that First2Print are helping more to do the same by producing these amazing banners.”

Everyone taking part in the Red and White City campaign is also being asked to send pictures of their decorations or red and white clothes to info@foundationoflight.co.uk or @SAFCOfficial on Twitter using the hashtag #DaretoDream, with the chance to win free tickets to an SAFC game at the Stadium of Light.

Schools and businesses interested in getting involved should contact the Foundation of Light directly on 0191 5515191.
