Tony Mudd Memorial Lecture at TyneMet College

An annual lecture held in memory of a late TyneMet College counselling teacher, Tony Mudd, has raised almost £130 for Barnardos.

The guest speaker at the Lecture, which was held at TyneMet College’s Coast Road Campus, was Dr Maggie Robson, an experienced therapist and counsellor trainer. Over 100 former and current students as well as professionals from the counselling field attended the lecture which was entitled ‘What is play therapy?’

In addition to counselling in a GP practice, Student Services and the NHS, Maggie has been involved with a local CRUSE branch in a project to offer play therapy to bereaved children. Before moving to Keele University as Director of Counselling Psychology, she was Director of the Centre for Studies in Counselling (CESCO) at the University of Durham. Her research interests are wide ranging and include the process of bereavement in childhood, evaluating the usefulness of counselling provisions and play therapy.

Carmel Slawski, joint course leader for the Foundation Degree in Counselling TyneMet College, said:

“We were delighted to have attracted such a prestigious speaker as Maggie. The topics that she covered were of great interest to our students. We hold this lecture on an annual basis in accordance with our late colleague Tony Mudd’s wish. The lectures are always well attended and the feedback from the students is always very positive. We are delighted to have been able to raise almost £130.00 for Barnardos.”
