Convergys Inspire TyneMet IT Students
IT students at TyneMet College were excited to receive the first of a series of scheduled visits from a local, leading customer management organisation, Convergys.
The Level 2 students were introduced to the company by Helge Tonnesen, Director of Operations and Lyndsey Mulley, Senior Manager, Human Resources, and were given an insight in to how the company operates by managing customer contact for a variety of national and international clients who need to outsource their customer contact handling.
Convergys, who have been a leader in providing customer service solutions to the industry for over 30 years, employ staff in a variety of roles, some of which require up-to-date IT qualifications and skills either to help the organisation maintain and develop their state-of-the-art IT infrastructure or work on one of the client technical support programs.
Convergys are a forward thinking organisation, who have committed to supporting the College and our students by providing career information in tutorial sessions as well as extended involvement with wider groups of students via our North East Sports Academy.
Business Ambassadors are pivotal to students’ development and understanding of the world of work. By sharing experiences of industry and talking positively about the exciting opportunities available, business ambassadors such as Convergys are helping to raise awareness of the many career opportunities available to students.
Over the series of visits the students will be given careers advice and guidance, help with optimising their CVs, be introduced to best practices when applying for jobs and get examples of interview techniques, which will help them stand out from other applicants when they apply for jobs in the future.
Mick Burton, Head of Engineering, Construction and IT, TyneMet College, said:
“I would like to thank Convergys for helping me to arrange this series of visits. The information that they are sharing with the students will help them to make informed careers decisions.
“Helge is one of our valued TyneMet Business Ambassadors and is involved in various projects within the College. Working with professional organisations such as Convergys opens up a multitude of possibilities for our students.
“I hope that some of the students will apply for the work placement vacancies at Convergys over the summer holidays.”
Helge Tonnesen, Director of Operations, Convergys, said:
“We are delighted to be partnering with TyneMet and fully support the Business Ambassador initiative. As well as academic teaching, TyneMet are preparing and empowering their pupils to be ‘ready to work’ so when they reach that crucial stage of making the transition from education to the workplace they are equipped with the right qualifications, attitude and skills required to conduct oneself within a professional environment.
“At Convergys we offer a wide range of career opportunities starting at entry level and we are very proud of the fact that 79% of our managers have been promoted from within. Convergys are the world’s second largest customer management company with a 125,000 strong workforce, speaking 47 languages working from more than 150 locations in 31 countries across the globe.
“As an employer of choice in the region Convergys values TyneMet’s innovative approach to educating the ‘workforce of tomorrow’. We are truly excited about our involvement with TyneMet and our future together!”
