TyneMet Apprentices Serve Up A Feast Of A Celebration

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, on Monday 3rd and Wednesday 5th March 2014, TyneMet College welcomed Employers into College to share in the success of Apprenticeship Programmes.

The Employers were invited to a 3 course lunch prepared and cooked by Apprentices studying on the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery. Supervised by award winning TyneMet staff, the Apprentices showcased their creative skills and talents and created a menu (see below) especially for the day which offered a choice of mouth watering starters, mains and deserts.

The choice of starter at the lunch was Watercress & Celeriac soup with Goats Cheese Crouton or Smoked Mackerel and Horseradish Pate. The main options were Stuffed Chicken Breast and Pancetta with Stilton Sauce, served with seasonal vegetable selection or Tomato & Basil Tagliatelle accompanied by French Garlic Bread and the choice of tempting desserts was between Lime and Ginger Tart or Chocolate Tiramisu.

In total, 30 Employers shared the lunch experience with Mangers and TyneMet’s Business Development Team. The food was cooked to perfection and was professionally served by students studying on catering and hospitality courses.

Paul Smissen, Business and Commercial Development Manager, TyneMet College said:

“Without the commitment of Employers who attended the celebratory lunch, our Apprenticeship programmes would not be so successful. The Employers invest a great deal in to their Apprentices and the College delivers high quality training to match this investment.

“Apprenticeship programmes are designed so that Employers can train the Apprentices to their working practices and standards, safe in the knowledge that the College is delivering the appropriate technical side of the qualification.”

TyneMet College is committed to looking at the needs of local industry and Employers in order to develop courses specific to match industry requirements and overcome skills shortages, with an aim to creating more employment opportunities for students on Apprenticeship courses and develop highly trained workers of the future.
