Quality appointment at Keiro

Heathcare provider Keiro has strengthened its senior management team after the appointment of an experienced new general manager at its Chase Park Neuro Centre in Whickham.

Victoria McGurk, 38, joins the award-winning neuro, stroke and spinal-rehabilitation centre and will be responsible for continually driving clinical care standards across the site, which encompasses the Chase Park Rehabilitation Suite, Nursing Suite and Healthclub.

Recognised as one of the leading neuro-rehabilitation facilities in the UK, Keiro’s services assist adults with acquired injuries and complex conditions who require quality long term nursing care. It also supports people with the move back to independent living following a period of specialist rehabilitation.

The latest addition to the fast growing company’s 150-strong team has spent eight years at NHS Tees as an Assessor and Lead Manager before working as a Service Development Manager for a community-based complex care provider supporting clients with spinal and brain injuries and neurological disorders.

Viv Watson, managing director at Keiro, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have someone with Victoria’s level of experience join our team at Chase Park Neuro Centre to oversee clinical and commercial aspects of our service delivery to clients.

“She will play a key role in directing the care and therapy teams to ensure that clinical practices and service delivery are applied consistently across the site and in accordance with the company’s high standards of quality care.”

A qualified nurse since 1996, Victoria began her career as a staff nurse in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, as well as in management nursing and residential homes across Sunderland, Teesside and County Durham.

Victoria said: “Having worked with some of the team previously in the NHS, I was aware of and very impressed with the Keiro model and its plans for the future. I was really inspired by the company’s vision and excited about the potential for developing innovative nursing and rehabilitation services in the North East.

“For me, it’s all about seeing people successfully move through our service if being rehabilitated, or getting the most out of their potential if a long term client. I want Chase Park Neuro Centre to be a great place to live, to rehabilitate, to visit and to work.

“Already I have seen the positive impact our services have with respect to our clients’ goals. I look forward to continuing and strengthening the quality of service we provide,” added Victoria.

Keiro recently invested £500k in the Centre to further improve its care provision and quality standards at its headquarters. Over the years, the organisation has developed close and successful partnerships with many charitable organisations such as Headway, the MS Society, Arthritis Care and the North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust.

The company recently opened a second neuro and spinal-rehabilitation centre in Middlesbrough that has become the first of its kind in the UK and will now help save the NHS millions of pounds whilst improving patient outcomes.

Known as ‘The Gateway’, the new £10m development was developed to complement the NHS in terms of facilitating quicker discharge from hospital, reducing long term care costs and helping people live more independent lifestyles. It has recently been shortlisted for several high-profile national awards including the Pinder’s Healthcare Design and Health Investor Awards

The company is the driving force behind the award-winning annual Chase Park Festival, which is one of the most accessible festivals in the UK. It aimed at including people of all abilities and in helping break down cultural barriers and stereotypes often faced with people with disabilities.
