Surf’s up - British Squad Place for Queen Alexandra Sixth Form Student

An A’ Level student at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College in North Shields has been selected to surf on the British Junior Surf Squad with the possibility of surfing in the European Surf Championships at the end of the year.

Louis Thomas-Hudson, 16, from Tynemouth, who is studying A’ Levels in Media, Sport Studies and Business, has recently returned from a high performance training centre in Portugal, where he trained with the British Squad for various events in the surfing world. Before attending the training camp, Louis spent some time training in Morocco in January. It is evident that his hard work and determination has paid off.

Louis said,

“I am so happy to have been picked for the British Junior Surf Team. Surfing is my passion and being in competitions is part of the sport.

“Even though I have been training quite a lot lately, my teachers at college have been brilliant and have given me work to take away with me so that I don’t fall behind.

“I am looking forward to training for the European Junior Championships and hope that we all do well as a team.”

Denis Bolton, Head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, said.

“I am delighted that Louis has been picked to train with the British Surf Squad. Despite all of the training sessions here and abroad that Louis has had to attend, he has managed to keep up with his AS level course work.

“He is a very determined young man and we wish him all the best with his surfing career.”
