Green light for first new houses to be built in Headingley for 30 years

The first new houses to be built in Headingley for 30 years have been backed by Leeds City Council planners.

Joint developers, Leeds-based Holbeck Land and Chartford Homes, say they will be on site at the end of this year to start building 24 new houses, a small convenience store and a ‘pocket park’ at Victoria Road, South Headingley.

A Holbeck Land spokesman, John Barraclough, said: “We’re delighted that planning permission has at last been granted for this scheme which will create the first new houses in Headingley for over 30 years.

“The development team is attracted by the opportunity to deliver three and four bedroom houses at an attractive price for families and first-time buyers.

“The scheme will revive plans dating back to 1924 before the land was acquired by Leeds Girls High School for a new road of housing with a pedestrian connection from Chestnut Avenue

“We are in advanced discussions with a leading food store operator for the introduction of a small convenience outlet at the entrance from Victoria Road.

“Holbeck Land and Chartford Homes have taken up a suggestion from Sport England and offered to voluntarily contribute to the costs of sports and play equipment for the local community.”

Holbeck Land and Chartford Homes say that the first homes will become becoming available during 2015 and 2016.
