Top marks for The Rowans

A housing development by leading homebuilder, Persimmon homes, has had instant success since it launched in October 2012 thanks to the fact that it is located close to one of the top five primary schools in the country.

The Robin Hood Primary School, which has been deemed ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED, the official body for inspecting schools, is located on the same road as The Rowans development. A 2011 study by Santander Mortgages shows that school catchment areas have become an increasingly important factor for home-buyers. Over a third of prospective house hunters with children under the age of ten say that moving into a catchment area of a good school is their top priority and many were happy to pay an extra £12,000 in order to secure a home nearby.

35 year old housewife, Michaela McKay and her husband Billy recently purchased a four bedroom detached home at The Rowans development on Leeds Road in the Robin Hood area. The couple, who have two year old twin babies, confirmed that being located so close to one of the top schools in the country was the definitely the deciding factor in their plan buy at The Rowans.

“The main reason for moving to Wakefield was to be closer to my family. With the little ones we decided we would need the extra family support.

But when we started looking at houses, I was adamant I wanted our children to get into a good school. We found that our new home at The Rowans would make our children eligible for Robin Hood Infant school which is just minutes down the road. A few people had recommended the school to us, so I researched it online and was pleased to see it was one of the top schools in the country and had been awarded grade 1 for Excellent by Ofsted. That was the icing on the cake.“

More and more often, a school’s proximity to a property is becoming a vital selling point for young couples as they are plan for a better future for their families. Websites that issue scores to individual schools such as www.findaschool.info are helping to increase the demand for property.
