Taylor&Emmet Forum Focuses on Service Charges

Property professionals are gathering in Sheffield this week to discuss the legality of service charges on commercial buildings with litigation specialists from Taylor&Emmet LLP.

The local solicitors are inviting members of its networking club, SY Property Focus, to the group’s latest free event, featuring industry expert, John Gray of 1st Point Consulting.

Held at Sheffield’s Leopold Hotel on Thursday (April 17), Service Charges on Commercial Property – Fact, Fiction or Plain Fraud is part of a series of free breakfast meetings offering representatives from the property sector an opportunity to discuss topical issues and develop contacts with like-minded professionals.

Guest speaker, John Gray, has worked as a managing agent and landlord for more than 20 years. He advises national retailers, including Tesco, Marks and Spencer and Vision Express, on a range of service charge matters and sits on the working party that continues to develop the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ Code of Practice for service charges in commercial property.

Rob Cooke, Taylor&Emmet’s head of property litigation, said: “SY Property Focus is growing in popularity and we are expecting a high turnout at this week’s breakfast club. John Gray has an excellent reputation within the industry and is a leading authority on commercial service charges. We would like to thank him for agreeing to address our members and we look forward to a lively and interesting discussion.”

The next SY Property Focus breakfast club will take place on July 17 at the Leopold Hotel from 8.30am to 10am. It will focus on pension fund property transactions with Martin Jarvis, a consultant at pensions and wealth management firm, Mattioli Woods.
