Opportunity to Get the Gig & Gain Valuable Work Experience

Aspiring journalists and music lovers across the North East are being given the chance to go behind the scenes at one of the region’s biggest ever pop concerts.

North East Live 2014, at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, will be headlined by chart-topper Jessie J and feature a host of big name stars including Rizzle Kicks, The Saturdays, Katy B and Jason Derulo.

Event organisers, SAFC and AEG Live, have teamed up with the North East’s Hit Music station, Capital FM, to offer people interested in a career in the media the chance to be part of the team covering the event on Sunday June 22.

There are four roles up for grabs in total, three of which are open to applications from anyone across the North East and one exclusively for students at Sunderland College.

This includes a Press Assistant, who will be working backstage to ensure on-air interviews with stars including Union J and The Vamps, run to schedule.

An Online/Social Media Assistant, who will be writing and uploading content for a special North East Live mini-site and social media channels, and a Research Assistant, who will be supporting Capital FM’s on-air and backstage teams.

The fourth role, open exclusively to Sunderland College students, is for a Photography Assistant, who will closely shadow the official stage photographer capturing the performances of all nine acts, including newcomers Neon Jungle and Rixton.

Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at SAFC, said; “North East Live 2014 is one of the biggest pop shows ever staged in the North East. This exclusive opportunity will give four lucky people the chance to not only gain hands on experience of working at such a high profile event, but they’ll also benefit from specialist training from the Capital FM team.”

People interested in any of the four available roles are being asked to submit an application detailing, in 200 words or less, why they should be part of the Capital FM team at North East Live 2014.

A shortlist of candidates will then be invited to attend an interview, with the best four ‘getting the gig.’

Kim Miljus, Managing Director at Capital FM North East said: “We’re looking for enthusiastic and hardworking people to assist our team in covering all the excitement of North East Live 2014.

“Not only will this be a great addition to any CV but it also promises to be an amazing event and I’m sure anyone who takes part will thoroughly enjoy it.”

Applications for the Get the Gig programme with SAFC and Capital North East, must be submitted via www.capitalfm.com by midnight on Sunday May 11 2014. Training will be given so no prior experience is necessary. Tickets for North East Live 2014 are on sale now from www.safcconcerts.com, or www.uklive.co.uk/north-east, priced from £25 each.

Anybody who purchases a ticket before Saturday 31 May, or has already done so, will receive automatic entry into a draw to win an exclusive meet and greet with one of the stars at North East Live 2014.
