Taylor&Emmet Blazes Whitehall Trail for Apprentices

Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is joining an elite group of solicitors helping to shape the future of apprenticeships in the UK.

The firm has become an Apprenticeship Trailblazer in Law to add its voice to reforms of the system that will deliver new standards designed by employers.

Taylor&Emmet was one of the first South Yorkshire firms to offer legal secretarial apprenticeships and it has two 16 to 18 year olds on its team currently who are studying for a Chartered Institute of Legal Executives level three qualification.

The Trailblazer programme is developing apprenticeships that respond to the needs of specific industries and focus on quality, culminating in rigorous assessment of candidates. Taylor&Emmet has signed up to phase two of the scheme, which is being rolled out across 29 sectors and will implement new standards in the 2017/18 academic year.

Sharna Poxon, Taylor&Emmet’s human resources manager, said: “We believe it is important to offer young people various routes to a successful career and it is a pleasure to have an opportunity to shape the future of legal apprenticeships, which are still in their relative infancy. We are adding our voice to those of large firms making up the majority of phase two Trailblazers in Law, to represent the needs of smaller employers and the Yorkshire region.”
