Darlington Council's campaign to find market stall entrepreneurs

Would-be entrepreneurs are being encouraged to spring into action and set up a stall in Darlington’s markets.

Darlington Council’s Markets team has begun an extensive campaign to encourage new and exciting traders to the already varied weekly outdoor market and Darlington’s Victorian Market Hall.

It is hoped that the new campaign will raise the profile of Darlington Markets and encourage a wide range of traders to the markets as the weather gets warmer and outdoor trade hots up.

The campaign will help to attract new business to the market in time for the Love your Local Market event on Saturday May 24 and Monday May 26.

Live music and entertainment on both days will ensure the markets are full of shoppers keen to explore what the markets have to offer.

To help kick start their markets career, new traders will be offered a discount scheme with stalls from as little as £10 a week not including insurance. This rises to £20 for the second week, £10 for the third week and £20 thereafter.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration said: “Becoming a market trader is great way to dip your toe in the water to see if your business model works. It is a low-risk way to start up your business with minimal costs or overheads. We offer stalls for almost every type of business and budget.

“If you’ve got something to sell but not sure how to do it – give our team a call they will be happy to help.”
