Worcester’s newest care home opens its doors

Worcester’s newest care home, the £6.5 million Perry Manor, is opening its doors for an open day on Saturday 31st May, giving members of the public an opportunity to meet the team who will be running the 82-bedded care home, before it begins welcoming residents on Monday 2nd June.

Visitors will get the opportunity to take a closer look around the purpose built care home which provides nursing, residential, dementia and respite care for residents. The new team at the home will also be on hand to answer any questions members of the public may have regarding care and day-to-day life at Perry Manor.

Mike Dearn, aged 53 from Birmingham, will lead the new team as Home Manager with responsibility for the day to day running of Perry Manor. Having started his working life as a Chef, Mike has more than eight years’ experience in the care industry, and is well skilled across all aspects of the care industry including dementia, nursing and residential care.

Mike will work closely with Customer Relations Manager, Ben Walker, who joins the team to provide the all-important link between prospective residents, their friends and families and the home. Ben will also act as the lynchpin between the home and the local community.

Activities co-ordinator, Sian Hennessey, has been appointed to manage the packed programme of events and activities at Perry Manor, with the aim of enabling residents to live life to the full, and also providing opportunities for informing and educating members of the public and the local medical profession.

Andie Frater takes on the role of Clinical Lead, with responsibility for recruiting and managing a first class team of nursing staff, and for overseeing all aspects of clinical care within the home. Peter McGregor joins Perry Manor as Head Chef. He will run the kitchen with a remit to ensure all residents have the option of a healthy balanced diet, utilising a wide range of fresh ingredients.

According to Home Manager, Mike Dearn, the team dynamic is incredibly important to the success of the home. “At Perry Manor we have an experienced and energetic team which shares a vision of how they want the home to run. We are all focused on creating a warm and welcoming environment where the wellbeing and happiness of residents is paramount. All members of the team are passionate about making a difference and enabling our residents to live fulfilling lives.”

Those who attend the open day at Perry Manor will also be able to pick up a copy of Care UK’s recently published ‘Listen, Talk, Connect’ – a free guide which helps friends and relatives to overcome the challenges they may face in having conversations and general interaction with those living with dementia.

Compiled by professional carers, families affected by dementia, and specialists in the field, ‘Listen, Talk, Connect’ highlights the essential role of regular contact and verbal and non-verbal communication for people living with dementia in order to lead more enjoyable and fulfilling lives.
