Businesses, schools and sports teams get set for charity run

Businesses, sports teams and schools across the North East are being invited to take their marks for one of the region’s most popular charity events.

The Lambton 10k and 3K run, organised annually by the Foundation of Light, returns to the Lambton Estate, County Durham, on Sunday June 29.

This year, along with the regular individual runs, the event will also include a new team challenge, designed specifically for groups of colleagues, teammates or friends.

Teams, made up of between three and six members, can enter either the animal fancy dress-themed 3k fun run, ideal for younger competitors, or opt to take on the slightly more gruelling 10k track, suitable for both experienced and amateur runners.

A variety of prizes, including complimentary hospitality at an SAFC home game and free entry to next year’s Lambton Run, will be on offer to the fastest teams, with organisations being able to enter more than one group to encourage in-house competition.

Jemma Garrett, Events Coordinator for the Foundation of Light, said: “The Lambton 10k and 3k run is one of our most popular fundraising events and this year we wanted to make sure there were more opportunities than ever for people to take part.

“We know that not everyone wants to run on their own and the team challenge seemed like the ideal way to get more groups of friends, teammates and colleagues involved and to encourage a little friendly competition.”

Entry for the Lambton 10k and 3k run, is charged from £12 per person for the 10k and £6 per person for the 3k. All proceeds will be used to help fund the Foundation of Light’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes, which benefit young people and families across the North East.

The Lambton Runs are sponsored by Cestria Community Housing, Lambton Estate and Start Fitness, and the Team Challenge is sponsored by First 2 Print.
