JF Finnegan begins work on multi-million pound Sheffield College of Applied Engineering

Sheffield based contractor and developer, JF Finnegan, is on-site at The Sheffield College of Applied Engineering campus undertaking the first phase of enabling works to pave the way for new state-of-the-art facilities.

The Sheffield College’s multimillion-pound scheme to extend its Olive Grove Road and Hillsborough College campuses was recently recommended for approval by Sheffield City Council.

The plans to construct a four-storey engineering centre at 2 Olive Grove Road were described as an “excellent addition to the local street scene” in a Council document.

JF Finnegan is now on-site at The Sheffield College of Applied Engineering as the main Design and Build contractor undertaking new photovoltaic panel installation along with North Light and gutter replacement works in preparation for the new engineering centre.

The works are scheduled for completion in mid-June to allow for construction of the new circa 28,000 sq ft centre.

The instruction continues JF Finnegan’s long-standing relationship with The Sheffield College following its work at Hillsborough College and also constructing the flagship £60 million Sheffield City College which was the North’s first purpose-built vocational college.

JF Finnegan had to work around some 6000 students and 600 staff during the construction of the main facility and the complex project became an award-winning triumph, hailed by the Head of Planning for Sheffield City Council as ’the greenest major development this city has ever seen.“

Paul Ballantyne, chief surveyor at JF Finnegan, said: “Sheffield College’s continued commitment to providing the best possible facilities ensures its success in attracting students.

“The new Applied Engineering Centre will play a major role in shaping the industry’s future Engineers and we are delighted to be continuing our working relationship with the College.”
