Business in the Community appoints new Yorkshire and Humber Chair

The business-led charity Business in the Community (BITC) has announced the appointment of Barclays community banking MD Kath Myers as regional chair for Yorkshire and the Humber.

A long standing Business in the Community board member, Ms Myers brings a wealth of experience to the board from senior roles at National Australia Bank prior to joining Barclays.

She said: “I am keen to draw on my experience to add value to BITC which does not opt for short term ‘quick fixes’ and adopts a strategic and longer term view of the vital role that business plays in society.

“Top of my priorities for this remit will be working closely with the local BITC board and members to encourage more leaders and staff to help meet and resolve challenges and, in the process, meet other like-minded businesses.”

The charity is further strengthening its Yorkshire and Humber board with two new members: Martin Coffey, chief executive of Marshalls plc and Richard Flint, chief executive of Yorkshire Water.

The 11 strong board is made up of senior business leaders from across the region who together shape the charity’s mission and strategy.

Richard Flint said: “By joining the BITC board I hope I can help to drive forward the responsible business agenda by sharing some of the lessons we’ve learnt at Yorkshire Water. I look forward to working with the other members of the board and helping businesses across Yorkshire to deliver on the challenges of today.”

Martyn Coffey added: “Marshalls has been a long-standing member of Business in the Community and I welcome the opportunity to contribute to our strategy.”
