Top ten traits for the perfect employee
Have you just secured your dream job? Are you ready to WOW your new employer? If the answer is yes to both of these questions, then you’ve come to the right place!
Here at Temp-Team, not only do we love finding people their dream jobs and perfect employees, but we also want to ensure the partnership is a long and prosperous one. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the top ten traits all perfect employees have.
Stick with these and you can barely go wrong:
1. Behave professionally
One of the number one rules is to behave professionally. Remember you are at work and not in the playground. It’s not ok to gossip, fool around and distract others. You are now representing an organisation and you should respect its values.
2. Take criticism gracefully
You’ve just started a new job; it’s natural to receive constructive criticism now and again. Don’t take feedback personally; use it to better your work performance.
3. Make friends
Make a conscious effort to get to know your new team members; it is just as important you get on with them as you get on with your boss. You will now be spending half of every working day with these people, so it’s vital you get along.
4. Always be on time
There is only one thing more frustrating than an employee who is always late, and that’s an employee who is always late with a bag full of excuses. Make an effort to never be late and always be on time. And, if you are late apologise and take responsibility for your actions – they’ll appreciate your integrity.
5. Never moan
Never moan – or moan more after you’ve lost your job. Take pride in all you do at work, whatever your role, it’s always a vital part of a business.
6. Be dependable
If your employer gives you a deadline, make sure you meet it and complete it to a good standard. The more dependable you are, the more responsibility you’ll get and the further your career will progress.
7. Have a positive attitude
We’re pretty sure it’s a fact; to think positive is to be positive! Positive people have the ability to motivate their team members and to turn all challenges into opportunities – not only is this good for your mental wellbeing, but your employer will recognise you as a leader too.
8. Use your initiative
We understand it’s only natural to ask for guidance in your first couple of weeks and even months in a new job role, but when you’re constantly asking questions (especially the same ones) it can be frustrating for employers. Don’t be afraid to use your initiative – if you think you know what to do, you probably do!
Remember, employers have a role too and that’s not to babysit their employees.
9. Dress appropriately
You’d be surprised at the amount of people who show up to their new workplace wearing inappropriate clothes.
A key rule – never show too much cleavage, never wear jogging bottoms to an office job and never publicise your arm tattoos (no matter how much you love them).
10. Have fun!
And finally, have fun! You don’t need to be silly to have fun, you just need to have a personality. Employers love it when their employees have fun on the job – the happier they are the more productive. Just remember to take the above points in to consideration when doing so.
We hope you can utilise this information to WOW your new employer and we wish you all the best of luck in your dream jobs!
P.S Congratulations!
