Yorwaste awarded City of York Council 370 skip contract
Waste management and recycling company Yorwaste has been awarded a contract to supply hundreds of skips across York as part of an effort to encourage the responsible recycling and disposal of waste.
Over the next three years Yorwaste will provide 370 skips per year at strategic locations around York at weekends.
The skips will only be at each location for one hour with the aim of reducing fly tipping and waste on the streets, as well as making it easier for people to dispose of waste if they are unable to get to a household waste recycling centre.
The three-year contract has been awarded by City of York Council on behalf of the authority’s 19 Residents’ Associations.
The waste collected in the 8-yard skips will be taken by Yorwaste to its Harewood Whin recycling facility where it will undergo a series of mechanical and manual separation techniques to maximise the amount of recycling.
Yorwaste estimates that around 95% of the material will either be directly recycled or converted into a fuel, with only a small amount going into landfill.
Dave Clarke, Yorwaste’s Transport Customer Service Manager, said: “We are delighted to be awarded this contract by City of York Council and are looking forward to working with the authority and the Residents’ Association to promote responsible disposal of waste and ultimately increase recycling at the same time.”
