Sales at The Fragrance Shop top £90 million
Manchester’s Fragrance Shop has increased its annual sales value by £9.1 million in the last year, reaching £90.1 million, with like-for-like sales rising by 8%.
The UK’s largest independently-owned specialist fragrance retailer attributed its 11.2% growth in sales to its focus on consumer service and a wide range of products at value-led prices, in addition to an increased store portfolio and improved online presence.
Ambitious and unique initiatives, such as Try It First, have resulted in a strong performance from the multi-channel retailer – underlying profit (EBITDA) was up by 9.2% to £12.4 million, compared to £11.3 million last year.
Sanjay Vadera, chief executive of The Fragrance Shop, said: “The Fragrance Shop continues its journey of positive growth in UK multi-channel retail. Our trading figures reflect a returning confidence from consumers, when it comes to purchasing fragrance as part of their fashion wardrobe.
“With luxury and designer brands, such as Chanel, Dior, Gucci and Loewe, accounting for a large proportion of our sales, we are happy we have the best offer available for our customers, wherever and however they want to shop with us – in store, online or mobile.
“Celebrity fragrances are also proving important in our growth, with One Direction, Beyoncé and David Beckham performing well.
“The Fragrance Shop has an ambitious growth strategy to remain at the forefront of the fragrance sector, with plans to open another 20 stores in the coming year. In addition, our online business is also thriving and we will continue to invest in our multi-channel approach through the coming year.”
“We continue to deliver top quality fragrances at fabulous prices, recently adding new brands such as Estee Lauder, while also expanding our range into beauty, with ranges from the premium natural brands Korres and Trilogy.”
The retailer moves into the next financial year announcing the departure of managing director Nigel Lawmon.
The Fragrance Shop was founded in 1995 with a single store. It now employs over 1,000 people, experiencing significant growth as a multi-channel retailer through its e-commerce website, 160 stores and distribution facility in Manchester.
