University of Sheffield to strengthen links with China at Shanghai steel event

The University of Sheffield Faculty of Engineering are set to attend CISSIE2014 one of the world’s biggest biennial steel exhibitions in September as part of an initiative supported by the region’s local enterprise partnership.

After a successful regional mission to the event in 2012, Sheffield City Region LEP, ConnectChina and The Expo People are organising a regional pavilion at CISSIE 2014 in Shanghai.

The University of Sheffield will exhibit as part of the regional pavilion with a view to strengthening relationships between the University and existing Chinese partners whilst also raising awareness of their operations and capabilities at the University’s research facilities.

Joanna Lavan of ConnectChina said: “the mission was a huge success in 2012 and we know there are great supply chain opportunities for companies at this event. We are looking forward to assisting the University of Sheffield have a fantastic show.”

Support has been provided by the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, enabling companies to exhibit at the event for as little as £1600.

Ellen Cutler, director of Inward Investment at Sheffield City Region said: “We continue to work hard to support companies from within the regions to perform globally, particularly within emerging and growing markets such as China.

“We also put a lot of time and effort into promoting the region as an advanced manufacturing zone.”

South Yorkshire pavilion exhibitors can also benefit from a partnership struck up between Emirates and the group organisers, offering exhibitors additional benefits including airport lounge use and preferential fares as well as group hotel arrangements in-market.
