Everyone Loves a Tri-er!

NINETEEN year old Ryan Clark is aiming for double success when he takes part in a 5k run and Newcastle’s first ever triathlon to raise money for the Sunshine Fund.

Ryan, from Cramlington, will compete in The Sunshine Run and then join the Winn Solicitors team as part of the Newcastle Triathlon ‘corporate wave’ and is hoping that his fundraising goes as well as his training so far.

“I’ve been training for a while now, but have definitely turned it up a gear recently, fitting in some exercise every day whether it’s running, swimming or cycling” said Ryan.

“My dad John has stepped in as my training partner, which is a great motivator for me, and my friends and colleagues at Winn have also all been great with their support, tips and advice.

“Knowing that my hard work and effort will benefit a good cause like the Sunshine Fund and disabled children like Charlie makes it very worthwhile.”

Ryan’s fundraising will go towards the cost of a mobility trike for five year old Charlie Rath from Fenham who has Down’s Syndrome.

Charlie’s mam, Julie Skinner said: “It’s going help our family so much by having the trike. Charlie is a really positive boy and by having this trike we will be able to do much more as a family.”

Caroll Pattison, fund director at the Sunshine Fund said: “We are very grateful to Ryan and the Winn team for taking part and showing their support. Completing either event is no mean feat so Ryan’s double challenge is a really, really big effort and huge boost for the Sunshine Fund and our fundraising.”

Ryan works as an accounts assistant for Winn Solicitors which is sponsoring the Triathlon’s ‘corporate wave’, which will see teams of four or more compete for the prestigious ‘top corporate team’ position.

Winn Solicitors has provided Ryan and his triathlon team with dedicated training and exercise plans and wetsuits for their swim across the Tyne.

Jeff Winn at Winn Solicitors is very proud of his staff and their fundraising. Jeff said: “The Sunshine Fund does a brilliant job helping children with disabilities in the North East and it’s a charity we’re proud to support.

“Ryan and the Winn team are training hard and will no doubt do very well on the day. I hope it is a big success for Charlie, his family and the Sunshine Fund too.”

The Sunshine Run tales place on Wednesday 25th June and The Newcastle Triathlon takes place on Saturday 19th July 2014.
