Gateshead's Turbo Power Systems secures $3.4 million train contract
Electrical power specialists, Turbo Power Systems, have secured $3.4 million of work from Bombardier Transportation.
The work will see the Gateshead-based firm follow up their previous work with Bombardier, on power sets for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).
TPS has already supplied Bombardier over 700 auxiliary power electronics units for train sets, and now expects to complete further work by 2015.
These units provide a source of quality power for sub-systems on the train, such as the air-conditioning equipment.
The TTC is a public transport authority that operates buses, streetcars, subways, and rapid transit lines in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The TTC is the third largest agency in North America, serving over 430 million passengers each year.
Carlos Neves, chief executive of Turbo Power Systems said: “We are delighted that Bombardier Transportation has chosen to order further units.
“Before this extension, we had already supplied over 700 units and are pleased to be providing more.
“Whilst this purchase order was included in our expectations for 2014 and 2015, it is very pleasing to have reaffirmed our relationship with Bombardier Transportation and to once again received the validation that it gives to the equipment that we supply.”
