Five more apprenticeships created at Port of Tyne
The Port of Tyne has announced five new apprenticeship opportunities in finance, engineering and security - part of their target of 25 apprentices each year.
Recruitment is now underway for the positions, with more planned before the end of the year.
Geoff Gillon, Port of Tyne director of Human Resources, said: “This is a tough time in the job market, with many young people struggling to find career opportunities.
“The future is exciting the Port of Tyne is investing in expanding our business operations and improving the chances for young people is part of our commitment to the community.
“We have 16 apprentices who are enjoying the opportunity to earn while they learn and achieve a recognised qualification while gaining vital work experience.
“Apprentices provide an excellent alternative to academic study, and offer a fresh perspective that we’ve found is good for business, creating more dynamic teams.”
In 2012, the Port achieved silver status with Investors in People, placing it in the top 2% of all IIP companies, but the goal is to reach the gold standard.
The number of full-time jobs at the Port increased by 11% in 2013 to 566 employees and the Port also indirectly supports over 10.5kjobs.
The closing date for the Port’s current apprentice vacancies is Friday July 11 with more recruitment planned in September.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online via the Port’s website portoftyne.co.uk.
