Yorkshire deep fat fryer firm invests seven figures in innovative 'green' filter

A Yorkshire company is ‘revolutionising’ deep fat frying in pubs and restaurants across the UK with the launch of a new filter which doubles the life of cooking oil.

According to the firm, FriPura’s filter extends the life of cooking oil, often exceeding 100%, cutting the volume and environmental impact of oil being sent for waste.

The filter, licensed and developed by Hull-based FriPura, is a small ceramic block suitable for use by pubs, restaurants and other commercial kitchens using large quantities of cooking oil. It sits in the bottom of fryers and doubles the life of deep fat fryer oil before it needs to be changed.

Several pub and restaurant chains – including Geronimo, The Lovely Pub Company, Youngs, Wadworth and Peach – are already using the FriPura filter with impressive results.

Michael Hall, head chef at The Farm, Solihull, part of The Lovely Pub Company, said: “After using the filters it has become apparent that they are successfully extending the life of our fryer oil – it used to be changed every 2.5 days whereas now it lasts for five days, doubling the life of the oil and saving 30 litres of oil per week.

Sam Wilbraham, executive chef and marketing director at FriPura, said: “Our filter is scientifically proven to help kitchens take control of their oil consumption and get the best results from deep fat fryers.

“Industrial cooking oil is used in vast quantities in large establishments like pubs and restaurants and has a short life span and is therefore costly to the business. But with the FriPura filter, the life span of oil is not only doubled, the food quality is also improved resulting in health benefits for the consumer.”
