Shaw Gibbs retains Investors in People Bronze Standard

“Shaw Gibbs is a modern, professional firm which employs the best people”

This was one of the many positive comments made when Investors in People awarded the firm its Bronze Standard. Shaw Gibbs, one of Oxford’s leading accountancy firms employing 70 people, receives the Bronze Standard for the second year running.

Kerry Whitfield, Shaw Gibbs Human Resources Manager, says: “We are thrilled to receive this accolade once again as it speaks volumes about our appeal as an employer.

“Accountancy is a ‘people business’ and we strongly believe in creating an environment where our people can thrive, with ongoing learning and a clear development path for their careers. As such we are always striving to adopt the best possible practice in development and leadership.

“With this in mind, we have every intention to go for Investors in People Silver or even Gold Standard in future years,” she adds.

An Investors In People Accreditation is highly regarded across all industry sectors as recognising a firm’s commitment to realising the potential of its people. It is an essential ‘badge of approval’ for professional, forward thinking business.

The assessment for an IiP Standard involves stringent testing of a firm’s business and people processes and their impact on staff.

With Shaw Gibbs an IiP inspector spent two days at the firm’s offices in Oxford where they interviewed a total of fifteen employees and directors.

In a detailed report on its findings, Investors in People found that Shaw Gibbs:

  • is a friendly, professional and ambitious business with very good practice in the recruitment, development and retention of a highly skilled workforce
  • has clear vision and core values and a culture of openness and trust
  • has an organisational structure which enables direct access to senior management for ongoing coaching
  • employs people who are fully committed to the success of the business
  • empowers people to take responsibility for their learning and development from day one
  • provides an environment of continuous improvement, where all learning is valued
  • has a key business objective of attracting and retaining the best people

Paul Devoy, Head of Investors in People, says:

“Achieving the Investors in People Bronze Standard is something that any organisation should be truly proud of. It is the sign of a company which is truly committed to good people management practice and we’d like to congratulate Shaw Gibbs on its achievement.”
