Reading training company to help boost youngsters employability skills

A Reading training company has been selected to help 600 young people boost their employability skills and become more appealing for future employers, as part of a national citizenship scheme.

Employability Town will be running a range of workshops for 15 to 17-year-olds as part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. The full-time programme brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them to develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It will run over 3 weeks in the summer, with shorter programmes taking place during spring and autumn half-terms.

Charities Groundwork South and Future Foundations have called on Employability Town to deliver interactive workshops as part of the ‘future’ phase of the programme. The workshops will focus on future employment, the development of interpersonal skills and how to present skills to potential employers in a confident and professional way.

“The National Citizen Service programme is a fantastic initiative and will make a positive difference to the lives of thousands of young people,” explains Klaudia Mitura, founder of Employability Town. “We’re delighted to be working with Groundwork South and Future Foundations to support the programme’s deliver in the south and help young people break some of the barriers they may face to employment.”

Groundwork’s chief executive, Graham Duxbury, said: “As an organisation we believe that no one should be disadvantaged because of where they live or their background. We are committed to giving young people the best start in life and to open up new opportunities in the job market. We have worked with Employability Town for some time now, so they were a natural choice to partner with us on this programme.”

Arnika Knight, senior project manager, Future Foundations, added: “The NCS programme is designed to help young person make the transition into adulthood with the foundations they need for the future. This is something we strongly support and we look forward to seeing each participant grow and develop at every stage of the programme.”

Employability Town is a specialist training company dedicated to helping young people develop the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to enter employment. The company works with charities, colleges and other support organisations to deliver tailored workshops. Its online portal was a finalist in the Education Innovation Awards 2014.
