Award-winning business supports Sound Waves

An award-winning fish and chip restaurant in South Tyneside is now backing one of the borough’s biggest ever concerts.

Colmans, which has been serving sustainable fish and chips for almost 90 years, has signed up to sponsor Sound Waves 2014 at Bents Park, South Shields.

The open-air gig, on Saturday August 23, will feature high profile performances by Scottish supergroup Texas, girl group All Saints and chart-topping soul singer, Gabrielle, as well as South Tyneside-based rising star, Lulu James.

Richard Ord, who manages the family run firm alongside his wife Frances, said: “Four generations of my family have taken turns at the helm of Colmans fish and chips, each doing their utmost to support the South Tyneside community since the company’s foundation in 1926.

“Sponsoring Sound Waves is my way of giving a little back and, who knows, maybe we can welcome Texas, All Saints and Gabrielle along for a taste of our award-winning fish and chips. “

Sound Waves 2014, which forms part of a wider programme of summer events taking place across South Tyneside, is also being supported by Dicksons and Port of Tyne.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader for South Tyneside Council, which is organising the event, said: “Sound Waves 2014 is going to be an amazing occasion for South Tyneside and will undoubtedly boost businesses around the seafront and across the town.

“We’re absolutely delighted that a number of key businesses have given the event their support, including Colmans which continues to be a shining star in the borough’s tourism sector.”
