Wakefield solicitor turns entrepreneur with start-up law firm
A Wakefield solicitor is growing her own law firm after taking the decision to leave the security of employment behind and start a business with the support of the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency.
Susan Barrington-Binns, from Wakefield, had worked in a range of practices, large and small, since qualifying as a solicitor 20 years ago and specialises in construction law.
After leaving her job with a law firm, she was placed onto the New Enterprise Allowance and worked with a business mentor from the Enterprise Agency to plan starting her own company.
Barringtons Solicitors was formed in March 2013 and has now employed a barrister and a trainee solicitor.
Susan said: “I had a dream for ten years to have my own firm, in particular my own legal practice, so that I could run a business my own way.
“But I definitely do not think I would have done it if I had not had the support of the West Yorkshire Enterprise Agency. I had the ambition, the dream and the drive but I lacked the tools and the confidence, which they gave me.”
Veronica Baldwin, Susan’s business mentor said: “From the moment I met Sue, I knew her business would succeed. She had a very clear focus on what she wanted her business to be and worked hard to get there. She used our sessions as a sounding board and to explore every aspect of her business.
“I am delighted to see how her business has gone from strength to strength.”
