North East businesses join forces in HR event

Businesses have been given invaluable advice on how to implement flexible working practices and develop their people at a free event run by HR experts.

Darlington based HR2day joined forces with NEPIC, the North East Process Industry Cluster, and the BASME business acceleration programme for SMEs in the sector, to stage the event at the Wilton Centre, Redcar.

Companies representing the processing and chemical industries, recruitment and health care consultancies, childcare and photography businesses, management services and financial institutions all took advantage of the half-day seminar, which brought them up to date on current employment law and legislation compliance.

The event covered a range of HR topics from employment contracts and company handbooks to the role of managers, the Equality Act and staff communications.

Founder of Darlington-based HR2day Nicky Jolley, who has 18 years’ experience in HR including ten in the oil and gas sector, said: “This is the latest in our free series of NEPIC-sponsored seminars that have proven especially popular with SME suppliers in the sector who don’t have the resources to employ a full time HR manager.

“The workshops have been designed to discuss the new employment law updates specifically focusing on flexible working and management development of people.

“We also have a team of HR consultants on hand to offer support to businesses on a one to one basis for any companies who may need additional help or advice.”

Businesses attending the event included Jo Hand Recruitment, Clive Owen Accountants, Sabic, Biffa Waste, The Montessori People, Carl Cavey Photography, Quorn, SW Accountants and Business Advisors, Identity Healthcare, Evolution Valves, Bluebells, Cat-UK, BH Financial Tuition, The Shaw Trust and Hope North East.
