Port of Tyne supports live music
One of the UK’s major deep sea ports has signed up to support live music in the North East.
Port of Tyne, which provides services in conventional and bulk cargoes, car terminals, cruise and ferry, logistics and estates, has given its backing to Sound Waves 2014.
The concert, being held at Bents Park, South Shields on Saturday August 23, will feature live performances by Scottish supergroup Texas, recently reformed girl group All Saints, chart-topping singer Gabrielle and South Tyneside soul star Lulu James.
Port of Tyne, which serves as a gateway between the North East and Europe, has agreed to sponsor the event as part of its on-going commitment to supporting arts, business and communities within its operating area.
Susan Wear, Port of Tyne Director of Corporate Affairs, said: “Though we are a global business, we are very proud to be part of the community of South Tyneside and delighted to support this fantastic music festival once more.”
Sound Waves 2014, which is open to all ages, forms part of a wider programme of live music and family-friendly events running in South Tyneside throughout the summer.
Other highlights include the annual South Tyneside Summer Festival, which is offering brass band performances at the Amphitheatre and South Marine Park every Sunday and twice-weekly Kids Fun-Fest events for young people during August.
Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “Port of Tyne is one of the most recognisable companies in the North East and we’re absolutely delighted to have the organisation’s backing for what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest events of the summer, Sound Waves 2014.”
