Story Homes has recruited one of the region’s leading financial experts to further strengthen its management team.

Stuart Marshall has joined as finance director bringing with him considerable experience at the highest level.

He said: “I am delighted to join Story Homes as I am attracted to large companies with an entrepreneurial spirit and an aspirational product.

“Fred Story takes a great pride in the quality of what he does and Story Homes is growing at an impressive rate under its chief executive Steve Errington. This job opportunity coincided with a time I felt right for a new challenge for me professionally.

“As financial director in Story Homes I take a very hands-on approach and I will be expanding my role within HR, Health and Safety, and in managing IT Systems.”

Datalaw, Howard Joseph

Online legal training provider Datalaw has appointed a chairman as it looks to accelerate its expansion plans.

Datalaw, which is based in Liverpool, has recruited Howard Joseph to the non-executive post.

Founded in 2001 by managing director Charles Peter, the business is embarking on a major expansion programme.

Howard said: “Datalaw has an excellent reputation and a deep understanding of the legal training market.

“It is ideally-placed to capitalise on opportunities arising from changes in this field, and I am thrilled to be joining the business at such an exciting time, especially as we have just launched a Legal Practice Course scholarship for a paralegal or trainee solicitor.

“I look forward to helping to shape its expansion strategy in the coming years.”

Charles said: “We’re delighted to have someone of Howard’s calibre on board as our chairman.

“His experience in helping to achieve sustainable growth for software and technology companies will be invaluable as we move into an exciting expansion phase for Datalaw.”

Mitchell Charlesworth, Phillip Ward

North West accountancy firm Mitchell Charlesworth has appointed a new marketing and business development manager.

Phillip Ward will be responsible for delivering strategic marketing activities across offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington, Widnes and Chester.

Speaking about developing the role, Mr Ward said: “I am keen to become an instrumental part of the team helping to further grow the business and lead impactful marketing and business development campaigns.

“I’m greatly looking forward to getting into the business communities we serve and building new relationships across the North West and North Wales regions.”

Berg, Edward Saidu and Samantha Hulme

Manchester law firm Berg continues to expand with the appointment of several key hires.

New starter Edward Saidu joins from Turner Parkinson as a solicitor in the firm’s insolvency and restructuring team. Edward will advise clients on a wide range of commercial recovery matters for corporate and financial institutions including banking issues, directors’ liabilities, and transactional and contentious insolvency.

Berg has also bolstered its dispute resolution team with the appointment of solicitor Samantha Hulme from DWF who has four years’ experience in advising on commercial disputes including breach of contract, professional negligence claims, shareholder disputes and banking and financial claims.

Samantha is joined by her former DWF colleague Kirsty Edwards as a legal cashier in the firm’s credit control department.

Regarding his appointment, Edward said: “I’ve also held Berg in high esteem so when the opportunity arose to join the team I was delighted. I look forward to developing my expertise by advising clients on a range of commercial insolvency matters.”

Berg’s senior partner, Reuben Berg, added: “These three key hires provide an additional boost to our talented team here at Berg as we look to grow and develop our client offering, particularly for those businesses affected by the mis-selling of financial derivatives.”
