Construction work begins at new holiday resort development in Northumberland
BUILDING work has begun on a £15m holiday resort development in Northumberland which, when complete, will create over 60 jobs in the region.
The first phase of Northumbrian Hills is the build of 50 four-star cottages set within Burgham Park Golf Club near Felton. Planning was recently approved and following a vigorous tender process, Brims Construction sealed the deal to build the first stage worth £1.5m.
The roads to the site are now in place and Brims Construction has laid the foundations to build the first eight cottages that have been bought for £235,000 each. The three bedroom, two-storey cottages measure 107 sq. metres, and come with a balcony as standard.
Developer William Kiely said: “The interest in the resort has been phenomenal. People from all over the UK seem to want their own piece of Northumberland. As well as holidaying here, the cottages offer great rental opportunity, which is very appealing to many and is undoubtedly great for the region.
“It is fantastic to finally see the foundations being laid, we have been waiting several years to get to this point so it really is a massive achievement.
The first eight units will be finished by early February. The remaining cottages will be built as contracts are exchanged. Once complete, it will be time to start phase two of the development, which will see a luxury pavilion erected. This will house a fine dining restaurant, bars, function rooms, a leisure centre offering a gymnasium, pool and spa. The final phase will be the creation of a world-class golf academy.
The holiday resort will be fully managed and is expected to create over 60 jobs once it is fully functional.
Kiely continued: “We always try and recruit locally and being able to create jobs feels wonderful, we will need people to fill a variety of roles including managers, chefs, gym instructors, domestic staff, beauty therapists, administrators and more.” Northumbrian Hills sits between Morpeth and Alnwick on the 235-acre Burgham Park Golf Club offering views of the Northumberland countryside.
