Scarborough sea front fundraiser for brain injury charity Headway

Local residents are being invited to find out more about the valuable work of the Yorkshire East Coast branch of Headway – a charity which provides support and information services for people with brain injuries, their families and carers.

A fundraising afternoon starting at the South Bay seafront on Saturday, September 13 at 1pm will involve the Headway team walking along the promenade and answering questions to help increase awareness of brain injuries and their consequences. The event will finish at 4pm.

Headway’s local branch chair Mark Hollinghurst, said: “We’re looking to repeat the great success of last year’s fundraiser which marked the first anniversary of our branch. We’re inviting local people and their families and friends to join us at the seafront and spread the word about the issues associated with brain injury and the ways in which Headway can help.”

Each year around 135,000 people are admitted to hospital with a brain injury. The majority will make a full recovery in time but even a minor injury can sometimes result in longer term problems. Severe injuries will inevitably need complex care, impacting on the patient, their family and carers.

Headway Yorkshire East Coast covers a wide area encompassing Scarborough, Whitby, Pickering, Malton, Bridlington, Filey and Driffield, and currently hosts talks and events in Scarborough and Whitby.
