Yorkshire's Garbutt & Elliott go green with new contract win

Yorkshire-based supplier of landscaping supplier, Green-Tech, has appointed leading accountants Garbutt & Elliott as its main business advisors and accountants to support ambitious growth plans.

Established for over 20 years, Green-tech is a leading supplier of landscaping materials and garden supplies including an innovative range of products to enhance and improve plants.

Owners Richard and Rachel Kay began trading as Green-tech from a single van and shed with limited funds available. Today Green-tech boasts an £8.6 million turnover, an established team of 42 staff, 35,000 sq ft of office and warehousing space and a portfolio of over 6,000 products.

Rachel Kay explained: “We’ve grown steadily, even maintaining our foothold in the market when the construction industry has struggled. We always keep one eye on the future and we now have plans to move to a larger site near the A1.

“Subject to the relevant planning permission, the new site will include purpose-built offices to house the expanding Green-tech team; a trade counter and a distribution area for Green-tech’s own brand topsoil – Green-tree.

“We selected Garbutt & Elliott because we felt they were the perfect fit for Green-tech. It’s a Yorkshire-based firm with a wealth of experience working with growing, family-run businesses.

“When we met the Garbutt & Elliott team we were particularly impressed with their values and ethics which match our own company mission statement.”

Jeremy Oliver, partner with Garbutt & Elliott, which has offices in York and Leeds, commented: “This is an exciting contract for us. Green-tech is a tremendous success story and has ambitious plans for future growth.

“The company now needs strong financial management and specialist taxation advice to help achieve its plans. We were delighted to be appointed to provide a full range of services including audit and accounting, taxation services and corporate finance advice.

“We have already been able to identify substantial annual taxation savings and will be looking at further tax reliefs available to the company in the areas of research and development and innovation.”
