hlw Keeble Hawson provides month long free will writing for children’s charity
hlw Keeble Hawson is providing a free will writing service throughout September to encourage legacies to be left to local charity SAFE@LAST, which offers vital support to children and young people who have run away and are at risk of harm.
Misba Shabir, a member of hlw Keeble Hawson’s private client team, explains: “With just six per cent of people in the UK leaving a gift to charity when compiling a will, evidence suggests that there is a disconnect between people’s intentions to give money to charity in their wills and those who actually do it. By teaming up with SAFE@LAST, we are offering a valid service and helping a very deserving charity.”
1 in 9 children under the age of 16 in South Yorkshire run away from home. SAFE@LAST was established in response to the need for services for these children, who are not only at risk from a series of long term negative outcomes such as poor school attendance and becoming detached from their family, but who are also more likely to get in trouble with the police and to engage in other risky behaviours such as substance misuse.
Mark Smith, the charity’s director of operations and strategy, adds: “The team at hlw Keeble Hawson has always been very supportive of our organisation, which we very much appreciate. Since 2005 we’ve made a difference to the lives of thousands of young people and are seeing great results from our work. After taking care of family and friends, leaving a legacy to SAFE@LAST is a brilliant way to ensure we can continue to support vulnerable children in the future.”
hlw Keeble Hawson’s wills and probate team members are regular supporters of charitable will writing initiatives, having partnered with Sheffield Hallam University in 2013 to help elderly residents write their wills.
hlw Keeble Hawson is one of the region’s biggest law firms and is at the heart of the business and wider community.
