3G pitches vs Natural Pitches in Sport

3G pitches in sport

Sport surfaces are crucial to consider for anyone looking at installing a brand new sports facility, as choosing the facility that’s right for you can ensure your pitch is profitable, good for the players to use, durable and usable all year round.

3G grass in sport has gained a lot of Media attention recently, and with many sports clubs looking to install these facilities for training and league matches it’s easy to see why. Players on the other hand have had divided opinions on the surface, however personally I find that playing on 3G and natural pitches is virtually the same throughout the summer, yet when winter arrives the positives of 3G are evident. 3G pitches are much more durable than natural pitches, allowing for a consistent playing condition all year round. This allows for a much better playing condition throughout the winter months, ensuring that the quality of the sport being played is at the highest possible level.

Additionally, 3G pitches have a great return on investment. This is due to the fact that the surface can be rented out all year round as a result of it being a highly consistent playing surface and it not needing cutting. Therefore, this allows 3G pitches to be rented out when the pitch isn’t being used, something that football and rugby clubs are currently carrying out across the UK. This return of investment is also an excellent opportunity for sports clubs, schools, universities and many more establishments to make money from installing a facility, as they would have the opportunity to rent it out to local teams throughout the year when the surface is not in use.

3G Pitch Advantages

Another 3G pitch advantage includes the fact that 3G pitches can help to provide football clubs with extra revenue through more use of external facilities such as bars and restaurants, as the more the facility is used the more the facilities around the club will be used too. This helps clubs who are struggling to turn debt into profit, as whilst the artificial pitch is being rented out to earn extra income, the facilities around it are used more as a result of it.

Additionally, another 3G pitch advantage is that the surface does not need cutting or fertilising like natural surfaces. This can save facility owners a lot of time and money that would have been spent on the pitch. Despite this, 3G pitches still need maintaining to ensure the best possible playing conditions, and not doing so could run the risk of needing expensive repairs or potentially even a new resurfacing in the future.

In summary, 3G pitches are my preferred surface for sports as not only do they provide the players with a truly consistent playing surface to use all year round, but they enable the businesses and clubs who own the facility to have a great opportunity to make a significant profit from the facility.
