Specsavers help Blenheim Primary School put safety first for children in Leeds

PUPILS at a primary school in Leeds will now be safer when out and about in the community thanks to a high-visibility vest donation from a local opticians.

Children at Blenheim Primary School were presented with 200 vests by store director Louise Hardy from Specsavers in Leeds earlier this month, as part of an initiative set up by Specsavers to increase the safety of local children, when out and about in the local community.

Louise Hardy, store director at Leeds Albion Street Specsavers, comments: ’At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.

‘We wanted to help increase the safety of school children in the Leeds area by offering local schools high-visibility vests so they can be better seen by motorists when their learning takes them out into the community, or when they’re out on school trips. As well as donating vests to Blenheim Primary School, we have a limited supply of vests available to give out to our younger customers, so they can be better seen when visiting a local fireworks display this bonfire night.

‘Our safety initiative also aims to raise awareness of the free glasses and eye tests we offer to anyone under the age of 16. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem in the early stages of development could lead to something more severe in the long term.’

To book an eye test at Leeds Specsavers call the store on 0113 244 8319 or book online via www.specsavers.co.uk/leeds.
