Knutsford’s Delamere Dairy goes from strength to strength

Starting with just three goats thirty years ago Knutsford’s Delamere Dairy now exports to markets in China, the Middle East and the rest of Asia.

The company had outsourced production in 2002 to focus on creating a quality brand for its products which range from goats milk to yoghurts, butters and cheeses, as well as speciality pet milks for cats and dogs under its Top Life brand.

By 2008 turnover had increased five-fold to over £15 million in the UK and the company decided to look to exports to help the business grow further.

Now, Cheshire-based Delamere Dairy is one of the latest companies to be named as Export Champions by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) in the North West.

Delamere Dairy has since worked with UK Trade & Investment, attending trade shows and UKTI Trade Missions to South Korea and Japan, and securing funding to explore the USA, where they attended the New York Fancy Food Show with the intention of exporting goats’ butter and cheese to America.

Managing director Ed Salt encouraged other companies to work with UKTI, saying,

“Exporting has been extremely beneficial for us, and we are delighted to become Export Champions and to be able to help encourage other North West companies to make the most of opportunities overseas.”

Regional director, UKTI North West, Clive Drinkwater said;“Export Champions such as Delamere Dairy – a company which has made fantastic progress selling dairy foods to new and unusual markets and creating a demand for their products - will inspire and motivate those new to international trade, both by promoting the benefits of export via their own successes and by sharing knowledge and experience.

“It is fantastic that so many businesses are willing to help contribute to the prosperity of the North West, both via their own companies and now with the help they have pledged to give to others.
