Liverpool’s £600k city green scheme moves into residential phase

Glendale Liverpool has begun work on phase two of its Green Print for Growth (GPG) Initiative as part of its contract with Liverpool City Council.

The scheme sees the £600,000 project moving into the residential parts of North Liverpool and South Sefton.

The project, which aims to regenerate the environmental quality of neglected public and residential spaces, will lead to the creation of up to 300 training opportunities and jobs for local residents of the city’s more deprived areas

Phase one of the scheme has already been completed.

It focused on the re-landscaping of the gateway into the city around the dockland area with some much needed vegetation clearance work.

Eight trainees from the national green service provider’s Liverpool based team will continue to carry out the landscape improvements in the second phase, alongside experienced grounds maintenance staff.

Teams from two of the city’s social enterprises, neighbourhood investor Plus Dane Group and social housing provider Riverside, have also helped to take part.

Glendale has already provided on the job training for those working on the project, along with opportunities to undertake an NVQ as well as first aid and health and safety training.

General manager of Glendale Liverpool, Peter Cosgrove said: “It’s a fantastic project to be involved in that has so many benefits for the city and its people.

“It will have such a positive impact on the physical regeneration of Liverpool by introducing environmental improvements.

“Through this project, we are also providing the chance for people to enhance their skills.”
