Drug and alcohol support charity chief executive to round off busy year for Institute of Directors

The chief executive of a charity that provides assistance to people who misuse drugs or alcohol will round off a busy year of events for the Institute of Directors’ North Wales branch.

Clive Wolfendale, the former acting chief constable of North Wales Police and now chief executive of Llandudno-based charity CAIS is the guest speaker at the IoD’s Christmas Lunch on December 5.

CAIS provides a wide range of services for people who misuse drugs or alcohol, are experiencing mental health problems or are otherwise disadvantaged. The charity works with a number of partner agencies to prevent substance misuse, promote recovery and develop opportunities for employment and enterprise.

Mr Wolfendale will offer his seasonal reflections, based on his work as a police officer and charity head, on the challenges facing welfare services, our national approach to drugs and alcohol, and general prospects for the economy.

The Christmas lunch takes place at the St George’s Hotel, Llandudno, from 12pm until 3.30pm. It will also be the final event of 2014 for the IoD, which brings together members of the business community from across North Wales.

IoD North Wales chair Helen Watson said: “CAIS is responsible for some inspirational work helping people recovering from substance abuse get back on track and make a tangible contribution to the North Wales business community.

“I’m sure that the insight Mr Wolfendale can provide from his experience both within the public and private sector will be of great value to all that attend our final event of the year.”

The IoD is the longest-standing organisation to serve and support business leaders, with more than 100 years of service in raising professional standards. You don’t need to be a company director to join the IoD. Senior managers are welcome from large public organisations to small family firms.

Members benefit from services including free business advice, a full training programme, research facilities and networking events.

The event is open to members and non-members, with places for the event limited. Early booking is recommended, with tickets priced at £30 for members, and £40 for non-members, with tables of 10 available for £275 plus VAT.
