Corporate Head at FiB Adviser Else wins top award for family business advice

Jonathan Tyson, Corporate Head of Else Solicitors, a Families in Business (FiB) Approved Adviser, has won top honours in the 2014 Midlands Family Business Awards.

Jonathan has been crowned the Midlands’ Leading Adviser to Family Businesses 2014 in recognition of his relevant, timely advice and family business sector knowledge.

Associate and Head of Corporate & Commercial at the Birmingham office of Else Solicitors, Jonathan has specialised in providing quality advice to family run and owned businesses for ten-years.

Of the Award, Jonathan said: “The award means a great deal to me. It is recognition that an adviser with real empathy of working with, in and for family businesses can make a difference. It is an honour to win the award given the four other excellent advisers nominated.

“My work with the family businesses within my own family gives me a real insight into how to approach acting for family businesses,” he added, “and in my opinion, helps me see things before they become an issue and give even better advice having had those first hand experiences.”

Commenting on the Leading Adviser Award, judge Jamie Gayton of category sponsors Unum, said: “Jonathan Tyson’s first hand perspective of what it means to be involved with family members is evident; he is really able to give great insight on the impact of what can happen if a business decides to avoid the sometimes difficult conversations and decisions that need to be made, or what can happen when family members can’t agree on the way forward.”

FiB Chief Executive, Dani Saveker said: “ Else Solicitors continues to be an outstanding Approved Adviser within our network – demonstrating a true and authentic passion to help family and owner managed businesses, not just in a transactional one dimensional way, but as trusted advisers able to consider the complexities and emotions that can be associated with family businesses.

“All of our UK wide Approved Advisers share this focus and DNA so we are delighted that in the Midlands, Else and Jonathan have been recognised for these qualities. By working in the manner it does, Else Solicitors has demonstrated the benefit to advisers from adding a greater value to their family business clients in a highly competitive world, something I have seen and strongly believe in.”

Created and organised by third generation family business The Wilson Organisation, the Midlands Family Business Awards are the Midlands’ only independent, not-for-profit initiative to recognise and celebrate the work and achievements of family businesses and their advisers. All winners in the 2014 Awards were announced at a prestigious black tie dinner at Nottingham Trent University attended by 300 guests including this year’s finalists, judges and supporters of the Awards.

Highly Commended in the Leading Adviser category were Fraser Cunningham of Smith Partnership, and James Simmonds of UHY Hacker Young. Other category finalists were Tom Adams of Affinity Asset Finance and Mark Runiewicz of Trade & Export Finance.
